Welcome to English A1 Q&A Corrections #088.
Today’s lesson is about asking and correcting very short questions and answers. We will review a little from the last lessons: who, what, and short answers. Then we add two new question words for this lesson: who and which, plus the short form who's.
Lesson overview:
- Use who for a person.
- Use which when you choose one thing from a small group.
- Use who's as a short form of who is.
- Use they with are.
- Keep the sentence order simple: question word + be verb + subject.
5 words:
1. who — hoo — asking about a person
2. which — wich — asking to choose one
3. who's — hooz — who is
4. they — they — more than one person
5. are — aar — be verb for plural
5 sentence readings:
1. Who is Mia? — Hoo iz mee-uh?
2. Which one is red? — Wich wun iz red?
3. Who's Ben? — Hooz ben?
4. They are students. — Dhey aar styoo-dents.
5. Are they ready? — Aar dhey red-ee?
Usage notes:
- who = for people only.
- which = for choice.
- who's = short form of who is.
- they + are = correct plural form.
- In questions, keep the order clear and simple.
Mini practice:
- Change “They is ready.” to the correct sentence.
- Change “Which is Mia?” to the correct question.
- Make a question with who.
- Make a short answer with they are.
- Post your own sentence in the forum and ask for correction.
