English A1 Q&A Corrections #009
Topic: where, where is, and simple location replies
Lesson overview:
In this lesson, you will practice very common question-and-correction patterns for places. We will review a little from previous lessons: use short, clear English, and make simple questions with be. Then we add new A1 location language: where, near, far, left, and right.
Word list:
1) where — reading: wair — meaning: at what place
2) near — reading: neer — meaning: close to
3) far — reading: fahr — meaning: not near
4) left — reading: left — meaning: the left side
5) right — reading: rait — meaning: the right side
Useful word notes:
- where is used to ask about a place.
- near is used for something close.
- far is used for something not close.
- left and right are direction words.
Example sentences:
1) Where is the station?
Reading: wair iz thuh stay-shun
Meaning: The station is at what place?
Usage: This is the main question form for location.
2) The park is near the station.
Reading: thuh park iz neer thuh stay-shun
Meaning: The park is close to the station.
Usage: Use near when two places are close.
3) The school is far from here.

Meaning: The school is a long distance away from here.
Usage: Use far from here to show distance.
4) Turn left at the shop.
Reading: turn left at thuh shop
Meaning: Go left at the shop.
Usage: This is a simple direction sentence.
5) The bank is on the right.
Reading: thuh bangk iz on thuh rait
Meaning: The bank is at the right side.
Usage: Use on the right to say where something is.
Common correction notes:
- Say: Where is the shop?
- Not: Where the shop is?
