English A1 Short Dialogue Practice #004: At the Door
Lesson overview:
Today’s short dialogue practice is about greeting someone at the door and giving a simple invitation. This is a very common daily situation. We will review a little from previous lessons: daily actions, speaking politely, and simple present sentences. Then we add new words for door and open/close language.
Review from previous lessons:
- We already learned simple daily action words like eat, sleep, work, and walk.
- We also practiced polite conversation words like reply, share, help, need, and try.
- We used simple present sentences for everyday life.
New words:
1) door — reading: dor — meaning: entrance
2) come — reading: kum — meaning: move near
3) open — reading: oh-puhn — meaning: not closed
4) close — reading: klohz — meaning: not open
5) come in — reading: kum in — meaning: enter
Usage notes:
- door is for the entrance to a room or house.
- come in is a polite invitation.
- open and close are opposite words.
- In polite speech, please makes the sentence softer.
Example sentences:
1) The door is open.
Reading: thuh dor iz oh-puhn
Meaning: Kapı açık.
2) Come in, please.
Reading: kum in pleez
Meaning: İçeri gel, lütfen.
3) Please close the door.
Reading: pleez klohz thuh dor
Meaning: Lütfen kapıyı kapat.
4) The window is open.
Reading: thuh win-doh iz oh-puhn
Meaning: Pencere açık.
