Former President Trump and his allies on Tuesday seized on a comment from Vice President Harris in which she said there was “not a thing that comes to mind” that she would have done differently from President Biden.
Trump and other Republicans shared the clip from Harris’s interview with “The View,” arguing it was an indication the vice president would not govern differently from Biden if she wins in November.
“Lyin’ Kamala, who is being exposed as a ‘dummy’ every time she does a show, just stated to the degenerates on The View that she would have done nothing different than Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trump ripped the Biden administration for a spike in immigration at the southern border, rising costs that the White House has worked to get under control, the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan in 2021 and global conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
“Her dumbest answer so far!” Trump posted.
Harris sat for an interview with “The View” earlier Tuesday as part of a broader media blitz this week to reach key voting groups, such as women, young voters and Hispanic voters.
Asked if there was anything she would have done differently from Biden over the past four years, Harris said there was “not a thing that comes to mind.”
“And I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” she said, pointing to the administration’s work to cap the cost of insulin at $35 for Medicare recipients.
Harris circled back to the topic later in the show, telling the hosts one difference is she would appoint a Republican to her Cabinet.
Republicans were quick to highlight the remarks.
“Prices are up 20%, millions have crossed our southern border illegally, and our allies around the world are under attack,” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), a top Trump ally, posted on X. “But don’t worry, America. Kamala says she wouldn’t change a thing.”
The vice president has for weeks worked to portray herself as the change candidate in November’s election, despite her role in the White House for the past four years. She has repeatedly urged voters to turn the page on the divisiveness of the Trump era and pitched her agenda as a “new way forward.”
A New York Times/Siena College poll published Tuesday morning showed that message was resonating with some voters: 46 percent of voters said Harris “represents change,” compared to 44 percent who said Trump did.
