Trump, Kemp to tour storm damage together on Friday

Former President Trump and Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) will make a rare joint appearance on Friday as they tour damage from Hurricane Helene.

Kemp and Trump will visit the community of Evans to get a briefing on response efforts to Hurricane Helene and deliver remarks, the Trump campaign announced.

It will mark the second time this week Trump has visited the state to look at storm damage. He traveled to Valdosta on Monday and was not joined by Kemp.

Trump and Kemp have sought to put a long-simmering feud on the back-burner during campaign season, with Georgia shaping up to be a major battleground state in November.

The former president narrowly lost the Peach State to President Biden and spent the weeks following the election pressuring Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) to challenge the results.

Trump supported a primary challenger against Kemp, former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), in 2022, but Kemp defeated him and won the general election by a wider margin than he did in 2018.

Kemp did not meet with Biden during his visit to the state on Thursday to view storm damage.

The governor earlier in the week expressed his appreciation for the role the federal government has played in responding to Hurricane Helene, contradicting comments from Trump, who claimed Monday that Kemp had trouble reaching Biden.
