North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (R) on Thursday said he’s staying in the gubernatorial race following speculation throughout the day that he might drop out in response to a forthcoming story damaging to his candidacy.

Robinson alleged in a video posted to X that Democratic nominee Josh Stein’s campaign leaked a story to CNN that the lieutenant governor said will appear soon. Robinson insisted that the details of the story, which as of Thursday afternoon had not been published, are false.

“Let me assure you, the things you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson,” he said. “You know my words. You know my character, and you know that I have been completely transparent in this race and before.”

“We are staying in this race. We are in it to win it,” he said.
