The New York Times is partnering with Apple and Spotify to host a subscription service for many of its popular podcasts, the company announced this week.

Starting next month, listeners of New York Times podcasts on Apple Podcasts and Spotify will be able to subscribe for unlimited access to the outlet's shows, the company said.

The most recent episodes of most of popular shows, like “The Daily,” “The Ezra Klein Show,” “Hard Fork” and “Modern Love” will remain free, but listeners will need to subscribe to access the archives of those same shows.

Subscribers will also get early access to new shows from Serial Productions.

"We expect the subscription model to evolve over time, allowing us to maintain and grow our audience while simultaneously introducing listeners to the benefit of a subscription," the company said.

News of the partnership was first reported by Axios.

A podcast subscription will cost $6 a month or $50 for a year, while New York Times All Access and Home Delivery subscribers will continue to have full access at no additional charge, the company said.
