Liz Cheney to join Harris on campaign trail at birthplace of GOP

Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) will join Vice President Harris at a campaign event on Thursday in Ripon, Wisc., known as the birthplace of the Republican Party, according to a senior campaign official.

Harris is expected to deliver remarks on the trip to the battleground state, during which she will praise Cheney, who is one of many Republican endorsements of the Democratic nominee’s bid for the White House.

It will mark the first time Harris and Cheney are together on the campaign trail. Cheney and her father, former GOP vice president Dick Cheney, endorsed Harris last month over GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Harris plans to note the significance of her visit to Ripon, which is home to a historic schoolhouse where the members of the Whig, Free Soil, and Democratic party met in 1854 to lay the groundwork for the Republican party. Wisconsin is also a pivotal battleground state that will help decide the outcome of the election in November.

The visit to Wisconsin will involve Harris trying to directly appeal to Republican and independent voters, during which she will outline how she views the traditional Republican Party compared to where it is under Trump.

Harris is expected to argue, according to the senior campaign official, that while Republican voters may not agree with her, they can agree on upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. She will criticize Trump for his previous comments about terminating the Constitution, which he made in 2022 when he called for the end to the Constitution’s rules regarding elections.

Harris has received support from some other notable Republicans, including former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.), and former GOP lawmakers and officials included in the launch of “Republicans for Harris.”
