Live updates: Vance, Walz set for high-stakes VP debate

Ohio Sen. JD Vance (R) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) are set to clash in a high-stakes vice-presidential debate that could be the last major televised event in the race for the White House before November.

Vance, who's running alongside former President Trump, has stoked controversy in recent weeks by amplifying unfounded claims about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, as well as for disparaging remarks about "childless cat ladies."

Walz, meanwhile, has faced scrutiny over his progressive policies and his generally low national profile.

Both men have a lot to gain from the event, which comes after Trump and Vice President Harris duked it out on stage in Pennsylvania several weeks ago. No other presidential debates are currently scheduled. Here are other key points to know about the debate, which begins at 9 p.m. ET.
