Former Georgia lieutenant governor says Trump is 'not God': 'He's a loser'

Georgia’s former Lt. Gov Geoff Duncan (R) slammed Trump for sinking the latest government funding bill after delivering an ultimatum calling for the plan to include a proof of citizenship voting requirement

In the Wednesday interview on CNN's NewsNight with Abby Phillip, Duncan said Trump was “not God” but in fact a “loser.”

“I don't know what I'm more mad at, I go back and forth minute to minute. Am I more mad at Donald Trump trying to sabotage good policy and good legislation to keep the trains on time, or am I more mad that were at this epitome of stupidity again and half of the people in that room couldn’t pass an high school economics class and don't realize the damage that their doing just to try to prime up an extra 15 likes on Twitter,” Duncan fumed early in the show.

Duncan's comments were made in response to Trump’s Truth Social posts urging Republicans to support the passage of the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to vote, in conjunction with the stopgap.

"If Republicans don't get the SAVE Act, and every ounce of it, they should not agree to a Continuing Resolution in any way, shape, or form," Trump posted on the social platform on Wednesday.

Fourteen Republicans opposed the bill alongside most Democrats, and the lack of congressional support for the SAVE Act is one of the factors that ultimately doomed the Republican spending plan. Duncan told Phillip Trump’s efforts “infuriate” him. 

“It infuriates me to watch us get to this spot, we’ve already budgeted the money, we just don’t want to write the checks for it,” he said. “If we do that at home, we ultimately go to jail, or get evicted or lose your car or your wife leaves you.”

The former Georgia state representative said it’s time for Republicans to figure out how to establish a party that “problem solves and copes and works with the other side.”
