Fewer than half have positive views of Walz, Vance as running mates: Gallup

Fewer than half of registered voters have positive views of both Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Ohio Sen. JD Vance (R) as the respective running mates for their parties’ presidential candidates in a new Gallup poll.

In the poll, 46 percent of registered voters said “[Vice President] Kamala Harris’ choice of Tim Walz for vice president” was “excellent” or “pretty good.” Forty-one percent said the same about former President Trump and Vance.

The poll also found Walz as slightly more favorably than Vance among Americans. Thirty-eight percent said they saw the Minnesota governor favorably, while 38 percent said they saw him unfavorably. Thirty-seven percent said they saw the Ohio senator favorably, while 44 percent said they saw him unfavorably.

CBS News is hosting a vice presidential debate with Walz and Vance on Tuesday night. The debate will be moderated by “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan and anchor Norah O’Donnell.

In an average of national polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Harris has garnered 50.3 percent support to Trump’s 45.8 percent.

The Gallup poll took place between Sep. 16 and 28, featuring 1,023 people and 941 registered voters. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level for the larger sample. The registered voters had a plus or minus 4 percentage points margin of sampling error.
