Democrats are more likely to be critical of Israel, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

When it comes to the length of the Israel-Hamas war, over half of Democrats in the survey said Israel’s government is heavily responsible, according to The Associated Press. Only around 40 percent of Republicans said the same.

On the topic of allyship with Israel, around half of Republicans consider the Jewish state an ally, as well as a place that holds the same values and interests, according to the AP. Around half of Democrats don’t consider Israel a place that holds the same values and interests, and rather a partner country that the U.S. should collaborate alongside.

Overall, 31 percent of Americans in the survey said they feel for the Israelis and Palestinians, while 25 percent said they felt “more” for the Israelis and 15 percent said they felt more for the Palestinians.

On Tuesday, Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel. The attack came close to a year after Hamas’ initial attack on Israel on Oct. 7 last year. Israel had also just began raids into southern Lebanon aimed at the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah supported by Iran.

The AP-NORC survey took place between Sep. 12 and 16, featuring 1,111 people and a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.95 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
